Smriti was born in Mumbai to Shrinivas Mandhana and Smita. Her brother Shravan, played cricket at the district-level, for Sangli. She was inspired to look up cricket after watching her brother play at the state Under-16s tournaments. At the age of nine, she was selected in Maharashtra’s Under-15s team and in two years later she picked for the U-19 Maharashtra team.
Mandhana made her Test debut against England in August 2014. She helped her team win the match by scoring 51 runs in her second innings. During India’s tour of Australia in 2016 at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart, she scored her maiden international ton of (102 off 109 balls), but in a losing cause. She scored the fastest fifty for India in a WT20I fixture, taking just 30 balls to reach a half-century against Australia.
Smriti started her cricket journey as a right-hander but because her father had a huge fascination for the left-handed batsmen, she along with her brother started playing left-handed. So that is how things started for Smriti Mandhana. She also honoured with the prestigious Arjuna award in September 2018.
